MALONE - Adapting to some very difficult conditions on the front nine of the East Course of the Malone Country Club, the OFA Golf team recorded a 221-228 victory over Malone and claimed sole control of the NAC Division I title on Friday.
While OFA clinched the Division I title, Madrid-Waddington suffered its first loss in the Division II season falling to Heuvelton 3-2 in a tri-match at the Partridge Run Country Club in Canton where both teams defeated host Edwards-Knox.
OFA WINS TITLE
The course was hosting an amateur tournament and it was really in beautiful shape. But it was also very tough because of the pin and tee box placements, said OFA Coach Joe Lynch after the 7-1 Devils rebounded from a loss to Potsdam (6-2) on Wednesday and dropped Malone to 5-3.
But the guys played very well. Tristan Moore was the key for us shooting a 42 in the fifth position. He has been extremely steady all season.
Moores 42 in the fifth position combined with rounds of 42 by Conor Hannan and Brandon Mullin, who birdied the fourth hole, in the second position to anchor the OFA victory.
Jed McRoberts at 47 and Alec Manke at 48 rounded out the OFA scoring and Dillon Binion tallied a nonscoring 49.
Evan Hannah tallied a medalist 40 for Malone and Elliott Vanier and Dylan Fleury finished with 46s.
BULLDOGS NIP JACKETS
Heuvelton climbed to 7-4-1 and dropped Madrid-Waddington to 9-1-1 by controlling the final three matchups. Will Tennant (54), Dedrick Johnson (52) and Eric Stewart (58) all prevailed after Jeff Mott (medalist 45) and Alex Hammond (49) won the first two matches for M-W.
Jack Tennant led the Bulldogs with a 49 and paced Bulldogs 4-1 win over E-K which was led by Hunter Tuttles 50. Zachary Allen (57) scored E-Ks point against Heuvelton and Caleb Rowe tallied the lone point in a 4-1 loss to M-W where T.J. Gagnon (53) and Zeb Zagrobelny (62) picked up a point for M-W.
The Section 10 Championships will be staged at the Massena Country Club on Friday with the team event and Saturday for the medalist and state tournament qualifying on Saturday.
