CLAYTON Save the River, an environmental advocacy group based in Clayton, is urging the public to send telegrams to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo asking him to support Bv7, a water management plan for Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River proposed by the International Joint Commission that could replace the binational entitys half-century-old water-regulation plan.
1958D, the current water levels plan for the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, was developed in the fifties on slide rules. Like many policies from the fifties, it completely ignores the environment and causes significant harm to the people and businesses that rely on a healthy lake and river, the group said in an email. But unlike most outdated, harmful policies from the fifties, it is still in place. The status quo is no longer an option, but our efforts using modern means of communication have not been successful.
