MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls lacrosse team capped a third straight NAC regular season championship season by pulling away to a 21-9 win over Heuvelton at Mike Nicholas Field on Friday.
Senior Erin Francis tallied seven goals and four assists while classmate Alisha Jacobs generated six goals and five helpers as the Lady Raiders raced out to a 14-4 lead by halftime en route to closing out the NAC season at 11-1.
Dominique Valancius contributed three goals and two assists toward the winning effort. Steffanie Premo, who anchored another solid defensive effort along with Maddi Dillabough and Courtney Hart, finished with a goal and assist while Abby LaClair, Devin Kelly, Sophia Rusaw and Alanna Pyke all struck for solo goals.
Sophomore Olivia St. Pierre continued her promising rookie campaign with a career-high six goals in the losing cause. Jackie Sovie delivered a pair of goals while Maddie St. Pierre closed out the Heuvelton scoring with a solo tally.
The duo of Annalee Beckstead (2 saves) and Felicity Love (4 saves) shared crease duties in the win while Heather Thompson posted nine stops for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Raiders will now set their sights on defending their Section 10 title next week. This years tournament gets underway on Monday with a pair of round games pitting OFA at Saranac Lake and Heuvelton at Canton. The winner of the OFA/Saranac Lake game faces the top-seeded Lady Raiders in the semi-finals on Wednesday while the Heuvelton/Canton winner goes up against second-seeded Potsdam in the other semi. The sectional final is slated for Thursday at 5 p.m. at the SUNY Canton turf field.
In the NAC varsity boys lacrosse finale on Friday, Saranac Lake outlasted OFA 5-4 on its home field.
The Section 10 boys Class C tournament also opens on Monday with three first round games as Potsdam plays host to Saranac Lake, St. Lawrence Central welcomes Colton-Pierrepont and Canton entertains OFA while top-seeded Salmon River draws the bye.
The semi-finals are slated for Tuesday and the championship game on Thursday at SUNY Canton at 7 p.m.
