MASSENA - The Massena Central and Salmon River varsity baseball and softball teams split their NAC Central Division matchups on Friday in Massena.

BASEBALL

Salmon River 6, Massena 3: On the varsity baseball diamond, the Raiders answered a two-run opening by the Shamrocks with a three-run rally in the first inning before giving up four unanswered runs over the final two innings.

Bert Gray went the distance for the win as the Shamrocks picked up only their second victory of the spring while Isaiah Dillabough pitched six strong innings in taking the loss before giving way to David Phillips in the seventh.

Jarrid Gray, Antoine Domino and Bert Gray opened the game with three straight singles before Gray and Domino came around to score the first two Salmon River runs.

Zack Rusaw highlighted the Massena offense with a two-run triple in the first inning that scored Connor Paquin and Logan Deshane then came around to score the other Raider run.

Both teams return to action on Monday against divisional rivals at the Shamrocks host Gouverneur and the Raiders welcome OFA.

Franklin Academy outscored Gouverneur 9-3 in the other Central Division baseball matchup on Friday.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Shamrocks built a 7-6 lead through three innings and led 8-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Lady Raiders relayed five walks and four hits into a decisive nine-run surge.

Kaylynn Conto went the distance for the win, striking out five and walking three while scattering five hits. Emily Tremblay (2K) was tagged with the loss.

Mackenzie Young had two htis and came around to score three runs in the winning effort. Bailey Dillabough and Addy Rufa both singled twice and scored a pair of runs while Chelsea Streeter connected for another two hits and scored a solo run.

Melanie Taylor sparked the Lady Shamrocks with three hits, including a two-run homerun that keyed a four-run outburst in the first inning and a triple, and three runs scored. Taylor Armstrong had the other two Salmon River hits and scored once while Sam Ghostlaw and Sierre White both came around to score twice.

WEST DIVISION BASEBALL

In the West Division baseball games played on Friday, Heuvelton overpowered Hammond 25-3, Lisbon edged Edwards-Knox 6-5, Harrisville beat Hermon-DeKalb 14-3 and Morristown outscored Clifton-Fine 10-2.

WEST DIVISION SOFTBALL

The three West Division softball games on Friday saw Heuvelton handle Hammond 10-1, Morristown blank Clifton-Fine 10-0, Edwards-Knox outlast Lisbon 2-1 and Hermon-DeKalb down Harrisville 12-8
