FORT DRUM Country recording artist Craig Morgan will headline AmeriCUs June 26 Salute to the Troops tribute concert, part of Mountainfest 2013.
The annual event is offered free of charge for community members, soldiers and their families.
The cool thing about Craig is hes a veteran of the Army, said Judith R. Cowden, vice president of member relations and marketing for AmeriCU and the events presenting sponsor. He was in the Army for 10 years and did a couple tours of duty.
According to Mr. Morgans website, he served with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Division, and spent nine years as a reservist. In 2006, he received the USO Merit Award for his support of the Armed Forces.
While more Mountainfest 2013 details are expected soon, Ms. Cowden said the concert lineup also includes Corey Walts, North Country Idol 6 winner, and Scars N Stripes, a Syracuse rock band that was the Syracuse Area Music Awards 2013 Peoples Choice winner. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. on Division Hill, and fireworks will follow.
Ms. Cowden said AmeriCU has a long-standing history of serving the military, and many employees and their spouses were in the military. According to its website, the credit union was founded at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, in 1950. A financial center is maintained there and, since 1988, AmeriCU has operated on Fort Drum.
More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the concert. According to an AmeriCU news release, 20,000 people attended Mountainfest 2012s concert, which featured recording artist Jake Owen. The release also said the 2012 Salute to the Troops concert recently was recognized by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions as the best promotional event in the country.
Mountainfest is held each year by Fort Drums Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation services. Other concert sponsors are Carthage Area Hospital, Lockheed Martin and Martins Point Health Care.
