FORT COVINGTON - The Salmon River varsity boys lacrosse team successfully completed a fourth straight undefeated NAC regular season on Thursday with an 18-7 win at home over Potsdam Central.
Dalston Day (5 assists) and Skylar Thomas (2 assist) led a balanced attack with four goals apiece as the Shamrocks broke away from a 3-3 tie at the end of the first quarter by outscoring the Sandstoners 12-3 over the next two frames. Kason Tarbell and Russ Oakes contributed three goals and two assists each toward the winning effort. Lakota Square (2 assists), Sky Sunday (1 assist), Trenton Tarbell and Karonhiate Lazore all broke through for solo goals as the Shamrocks closed out their NAC season at 14-0 under coach Jim Barnes, who has never lost to an NAC squad in his four years at the varsity helm.
Kyle Grant paced the Potsdam offense with four goals. Stephen Lewis had two goals and one assist while Sam Woods connected for the other goal. Garrett Kilgore earned three assists and Hayden Hart tallied a solo helper.
The duo of Kobi Johnson (8 saves) and Randy Peters (7 saves) combined to backstop the win while Jason Cardinal worked the Sandstoners (7-9, 6-8) crease for nine saves.
Both teams now get set for the upcoming Section 10 Class C playoffs which are slated to get underway next week.
In the lone other NAC finale on Thursday, St. Lawrence Central dropped Canton 16-4 while Massena Central closed out its regular season with a 16-3 non-league win at home over Northwood Prep.
SLC 16, Canton 4: In Brasher Falls, the Larries ran out to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter then netted five unanswered goals in the second en route to downing the Bears (10-5, 10-4) and clinching sole possession of second place in the final NAC regular season standings at 12-2.
Luke Arquiett netted three goals and helped set up four others to lead the winning attack. Marshall Burninghausen tallied four goals while Ian Lynch (3 assists), Cody Burns (2 assists) and Styles Arquiett (1 assist) broke through for two goals each. Blake Baldwin (2 assists) and Nick Randall struck for the other goals while Jake Sutton posted a solo assist.
Cody Moore paced the Bears with a pair of goals. Ryan Caldwell (1 ssists) and Isaac Thrasher scored the other goals while Cooper Newman recorded an assist.
Kody Kocsis went the distance between the pipes for the Larries and turned aside 12 of the shots he faced. Nate Gibson (5 saves) and Andrew McCormick (1 save) split crease duties for Canton.
Both squads head into the Section 10 Class C playoffs next week.
Massena 16, Northwood 3: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Raiders closed out their regular season on a high note, steadily pulling away from a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter sparked by a 6-0 run in the second.
Grayson Phillips scored four goals and set up two others to anchor the Massena offense. Evan Kassian (1 assist) and Jordy Mitchell notched three goals apiece while Isaiah Perry generated two goals and one assist. Striking for solo goals were Nick Henrie (2 assists), Ross Driscoll (1 assist), Sako Rourke (1 assist) and Brenden Broderick (1 assist) while Rhoades Tarbell finished with a single assist.
Max Finn had a pair of goals in the losing cause. Keegan Thomas scored the other goal while Jason Felbaber and Robbe Hennessy each tallied an assist.
Kyle Cooke handled 12 shots in the winning effort while Eli Kinsmen posted seven stops for Northwood.
The Raiders (10-6) are the lone Class B team in Section 10 and dont return to action until Wednesday, May 29, when they host the winner of a New York State Tournament first round matchup between the Section 3 and Section 5 champions at the Potsdam Central turf.
The lone NAC varsity girls lacrosse game played on Thursday saw OFA outscore Saranac Lake 13-7.
