HAMMOND The academic leaders for the class of 2013 at Hammond Central School are Rachael Hodgdon, valedictorian, and Coral Mahay, salutatorian.
Miss Hodgdon, daughter of Andrew and Tammy Hodgdon, has an academic average of 95.98. She has played soccer, where she earned Academic All-Northern Awards. She is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, of which she is president, Spanish Club, Science Club, as president, and mock trial for four years. She has received several High Honor Awards and a Presidential Award, and volunteers with church activities. She is a member of Girl Scouts and 4-H Club and was the school HOBY Youth Leadership representative.
Miss Hodgdon was nominated for the St. Lawrence-Augsbury Scholarship, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal Award, Air Force Math and Science Award and University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Award. She will graduate with 24 college credits from SUNY Canton to pursue forensics and law. She will attend Clarkson University, Potsdam.
Miss Mahay, daughter of Allan and Pamela Mahay, has an academic average of 93.65. She is a member of National Honor Society, plays softball, participated in the senior play and was a cheerleader for four years, serving as captain in her senior year. She is a youth group member in Rossie and has received the Air Force Math and Science Award and was nominated for the St. Lawrence-Augsbury Scholarship and Clarkson Achievement Award. Miss Mahay works as a hostess in the summer and has job shadowed at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg. She plans to attend Albany College of Pharmacy.
