DEXTER The General Brown Central School District seeks to honor those who have given their lives in service to the community.
The inaugural nomination campaign for the districts Memorial Wall takes place through Friday.
The General Brown Central School District community strives to instill a spirit of community service in its students, said Tina M. Heckman, junior-senior high school principal. The greater community is filled with individuals who live in service to others. Every day members of the armed forces, law enforcement and fire personnel risk their lives to protect others and to ensure that we have a safe and productive community, and some have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in service to others. Their efforts will be recognized via this memorial for years to come.
The memorial wall, which was dedicated a year ago, was the Eagle Scout project of 2012 General Brown graduate Ethan R. Sullivan.
Mrs. Heckman said Mr. Sullivan worked diligently to create a memorial garden, complete with pavers and benches, outside of the General Brown Central School District offices in the spring of 2012.
The memorial will forever be a reminder of the sacrifices that our graduates and community members have made in the name of service to our community, Mrs. Heckman said.
According to information posted on the districts website, two people will be memorialized each year, and their names will be placed on a plaque with their area of service noted.
Each honoree must be a graduate of General Brown High School and have died in the line of duty in the armed forces or during public service.
The public is invited to a dedication ceremony at 5:30 p.m. June 10.
