Canisius College goalie Kayla Scully, a former South Jefferson player, won Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors for her sophomore womens lacrosse season.
Scully, who is from Rodman, led the MAAC in goals-against average at 7.28. She was second in save percentage (.533) and fifth in saves per game (6.53) for the Division I program.
Scully, also named the goalkeeper on the All-MAAC first team, was a member of the All-MAAC rookie team last season.
■ Former Immaculate Heart Central player Ben Winkler became the first attackman in Utica College mens lacrosse history to win all-conference first-team honors as he was selected to the Empire 8 all-star squad. Winkler, a senior, finished his career as the second all-time goal-scorer in Utica history with 125. He is third all-time in points with 158.
