Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Thursday that the state has awarded more than $9 million in grants to 24 counties for costs associated with 911 call centers that dispatch police, fire or ambulance services to the public.
Jefferson County has been given a $295,523 sustainment grant.
Lewis County has been awarded an $808,615 consolidation grant.
The grants are being awarded through the state Division of Homeland Security and represent the second phase of a plan to improve the states emergency communication network.
In February, $102 million from the 2012-13 budget was awarded to 29 counties to help promote a network of regional partnerships that will include state agencies.
The $9 million in grants announced Thursday comprises $7 million awarded to applicants for reimbursement of consolidation costs and $2 million given to applicants for reimbursement of sustainment costs.
