HERRINGS Travelers along State Route 3 will have to slow down sooner and longer because of an extension of the 35-mph zone beyond the village limits.
According to Michael R. Flick, state Department of Transportation Region 7 public information officer, a routine safety study was done last year.
The study showed a speed zone extension was warranted, he said.
The state police concurred, he added.
The zone has been increased about a mile, beginning before the village limits coming from Carthage and extending past County Route 37.
