NICHOLVILLE Slic Network Solutions, a fiber-to-the-home provider, surpassed the 3,000 customer mark on May 1, 2013.
Slic is nearing the completion of 800 miles of fiber-optic cable network throughout Franklin and St. Lawrence counties with only a handful of roads in the eastern region remaining.
The expansion, funded largely by grants and loans from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) totaling over $33 million, when completed will pass over 6,000 homes. A portion of the funding was earmarked for IPTV service. Slics IPTV service, myEVTV.com, delivers video content over fiber-optic cable to set-top boxes in customers homes. When combined with their broadband internet (the fastest available in their service areas), and crystal clear phone service, Slic enters the triple-play market to provide rural customers with high-quality solutions from a single hard-wired provider.
myEVTV.com takes advantage of the tremendous amounts of bandwidth available on fiber networks to deliver a next generation television experience with multiple high-definition video streams, over-the-top (OTT) video on demand services like Vudu, and hybrid web content (web pages, email, etc.) over a single a connection.
The myEVTV.com channel line-up will be offered in two tiers. The first, mySelect TV, features 80+ channels including local affiliates for FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS. In addition, mySelect TV offers many area favorites like History, Disney, ESPN, HGTV, Comedy Central and many more. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of Yes Network, NFL Network and SNY Sports among others. The second tier of service called myEnhanced TV features 91 additional channels including 50 CD quality music stations.
Triple-play bundles like myChoice will include a 10 Mbps internet connection, unlimited regional phone, and the mySelect TV package starting at $124.95. When compared to other rural services like satellite Internet and TV and phone service, myChoice represents a $40 savings. These are premium grade services delivered over a 100% fiber-optic network to rural homes and business right here in upstate NY at what are proving to be an extremely valuable price points, stated Jeff Yette, sales engineer at Slic Network Solutions. These are the types of service that until recently have only been made available in metropolitan areas, he added.
Customers can enhance their experience with add-on services like faster Internet speeds, unlimited long distance in the US & Canada, additional set-top boxes for additional televisions, HD module for access to more than 65 High Definition channels, Whole Home DVR and premium content like HBO, Starz, Cinemax, Showtime and NFLRedZone.
Slic has had a small test group in place throughout the month of April and will deploy an additional 100 set-top boxes in May in the Dickinson, Dickinson Center areas, making Franklin County the first to receive the new service. Generally speaking, the roll-out plan will begin close to Slics headquarters in Nicholville, spreading out from there.
