The driver of a vehicle that struck an Indian River Central School District bus Thursday was injured, but no students were harmed, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said Jurgen H. Verne, 51, of 24502 Waddingham Road, Evans Mills, pulled out of a driveway onto County Route 16 in the town of Pamelia about 6:30 a.m., turning on his heat. The heat caused Mr. Verne’s windshield to fog up, causing him to fail to see the bus, which had just started to pull away after picking up a child.

The bus driver, Samantha L. Condit, 36, of 136 Duffy St., told deputies the bus had moved about 15 feet before being struck in the rear by Mr. Verne’s vehicle. Mr. Verne was taken to Samaritan Medical Center complaining of head pain. Neither the bus driver nor any of her eight passengers were injured.

Mr. Verne was charged with following too closely.
