OGDENSBURG Edward A. LaVarnway spent Saturday, his last day as executive director of the Frederic Remington Art Museum, tending to the business at hand.
Paperwork with Laura, he said Friday. Grants. Grant applications. Just tying up some loose ends.
Laura is Laura A. Foster, the museums curator since 1989. She was named last week as interim executive director.
She will be evaluated after six months and is expected then to be named permanent executive director and curator.
Mr. LaVarnway said he has full confidence in Ms. Foster, so the change in administration has been, at least for him, barely noticeable.
He is not worried as he leaves a month earlier than planned.
The transition is relatively seamless, Mr. LaVarnway said. As curator for over 20 years, Laura is extremely knowledgeable about the collection and the museum community. Ill be available to consult as needed, though with the museums extremely able staff, I doubt Ill be called on very much.
Museum administrative aide Shannon L. Ghize has high praise for her soon-to-be-former boss.
Hes very easy to work for, she said Friday. I think its going to be an easy transition.
Mr. LaVarnway knows why.
It has been a privilege to serve at the museum with these wonderful people whom Ive come to love over that past almost eight years, he said. I know Im leaving the institution in very capable hands.
