The New York State Zoo at Thompson Parks executive director expressed excitement as the zoo rolled the dice on a new Charity Casino fundraising event.
Zoo Executive Director John T. Wright said he and other organizers were looking for something new with an unusual theme and activities.
With a little bit of flair with it, he said.
The fantasy casino event will raise money for the zoos animal caretaking work.
The event will go from 5 to 8:30 p.m. May 18 at the Bruce M. Wright Memorial Conference Center, 1291 Faichney Drive. Admission to the event is $35 for members and $40 for non-members, with tickets purchasable only by people 21 or over.
During the event, attendees will see performances by the band the Zebra Musselz*, a group of cirque performers and a roving illusionist.
Among the games at the event will be blackjack, craps and roulette. Winners of the games will be able to redeem their chips for tickets in raffles taking place during the night.
Food will be provided by Texas Roadhouse, and a cash bar run by the Paddock Club.
Mr. Wright said the fundraiser would be used as a test for its planned Mardi Growl event next February or March.
We feel our events and our calendar are pretty solid, he said.
The sponsors of the event are the Watertown Daily Times, Texas Roadhouse and ABC 50.
