The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Division I tournament and will face Northeast Conference champion Bryant in the first round at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carrier Dome.

The Syracuse women, led by former Carthage standout and 2011 Times All-North Most Valuable Player Kailah Kempney, got the No. 4 overall seed and will have a first-round bye. The Orange will face the winner of Boston College and Dartmouth at 3 p.m. on Sunday, also at Dome.

Notre Dame, Ohio State and Denver earned the men’s other top seeds. Albany will face Denver in opening round on Saturday or Sunday. Cornell will take on No. 6 Maryland. Notre Dame will battle Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Detroit in its opener, and Ohio State faces Towson.

Syracuse will face the winner of Penn State and Yale on May 18 or 19. The men’s Final Four will be at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Memorial Day weekend.

Maryland, two-time defending national champion Northwestern, which has former Carthage star Kat DeRonda, and Florida were the other top four seeds in the women’s draw.

Other first-round matchups, involving former Frontier League players, include Canisius taking on Penn State and Massachusetts against Connecticut on Friday. The Golden Griffins feature former South Jefferson players Kayla Scully and Whitley Perry and former General Brown standout Cody Kucharski. The Minutewomen have former Carthage athletes Katie Ferris and Amy Tiernan.
