LYONS FALLS William E. Hamblin, 87, of 4061 Cherry St. and a long time resident of Elm St., Port Leyden, died Wed. May 1 in Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville where he had been a resident since Dec. 2012.
He was born, Aug. 26, 1925 in Port Leyden, the son of Roscoe C and Lillian Moshier Hamblin and was a 1944 graduate of Port Leyden High School.
He was employed by Georgia Pacific Corp and Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper, until his retirement in 1997. He was a Port Leyden village trustee from 1978 until 1980, served as mayor of Port Leyden from 1980 until 1982 and was a town justice for the town of Leyden from 1980 until 2008 and was a village justice for Port Leyden from 1985 until 2008.
He was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Boonville. He had served as treasurer of the Congregational Church, Port Leyden in the 1950s and was a member of the church board of the Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls. He was a former member of the Port Leyden Historical Club and the Association of Towns. He was a member of Oneida County Magistrates Association, Lewis County Magistrates Association and the State Magistrates Association until his death.
Surviving are a niece Sharon Levy of Florida and two nephews Richard Welch, of Rochester and David Widrick of Cazenovia.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by two sisters Loretta Foote and Eunice Welch.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 11 at 3:00 PM at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Boonville with Rev. Dan Talbolt, pastor officiating.
There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his memory to the Abundant Life Fellowship Church or to the Port Leyden Community Library.
