The OFA Boys and Madrid-Waddington Girls claimed sweeps on Tuesday in an NAC Track-Field triangular which also included Tupper Lake. The Devil Boys outscored M-W 129-111 for a 5-0 season record and both teams defeated a very small Tupper Lake squad.

The M-W Girls overame a solid effort by OFA 160-139 and both teams claimed a win over Tupper Lake which featured a corps of stellar individual talent.

BOYS MEET

“Madrid-Waddington had some very tough performers and we really had to scramble with Alex Wood slowed by a stomach bug,” said OFA Coach John Tebo.

“We had a lot of people come through again.”

The toughest of the M-W performers was first-year senior Austin Scott who has burst into prominence in the distance events.

In two meets this season he has bettered school records held by performers who are members of the M-W Hall of Fame.

In his first meet he bettered the 3200 school mark held by Tony Kerr and on Tuesday he ran a 2:02.6 to unseat Bryan Clark in the 800. He also took top honors in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

“Austin Scott decided to switch from baseball to track and after running for Canton in the indoor season he has been amazing in the start of the outdoor season,” said M-W Coach Larry LaMere.

“He is an outstanding runner.”

The Devils countered with quadruple medalist outings by Taylor Bouchard and Donovan Smith. Bouchard led the 400 hurdles, the long jump, the triple jump and ran on the winning 4x800 relay team. Smith led the 200 and 400 dashes, ran on the 4x800 team with Bouchard, Nick Vielhauer and Collin Sovie and run on the winning 4x400 relay with Alex Wood, Sovie and Phil Adami.

Joe Grizzuto rounded out OFA’s first place scoring in the high jump.

Randy Ball led the 100 meters for M-W and ran on the winning 4x100 relay team with Connor Maskell, Maurice Rease and Richard Wright. Ian Hawkins won the shot put and discus throw and Nick Zeledon led the way in the 110 hurdles.

Individual overall second places came from: Nate Stowe (O 110H), Alex Sias (O 100), Alex Wood (O 1600, 3200), John Lenney (M-W 400), Nick Zeledon (M-W 400H), Collin Sovie (O 800), Randy Ball (M-W 200), Owen Pearson (O SP), Russ Jacquith (O DT), Connor Maskel (M-W LJ, TJ), Richard Wright (M-W HJ)

GIRLS MEET

Madrid-Waddington relied on its depth to sweep the Girls Meet where Katie Marcellus led the shot put and discus throw and Cassidy Scott led the 800 and 3200 meter runs.

A small Tupper Lake squad featured two double medalists in Madi Fortier in the 100 and 200 dashes and Samantha Ormsby in the long jump and triple jump.

M-W received individual wins from Zoe Zagrobelny in the 100 hurdles and Lauren Orosz in the 1500 and led the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Blake Orosz, Angela Matthie, Makayla Blair and Taylor Lenney paced the 4x400 relay with Blake Orosz, Hannah Marcellus, Mathie and Blair leading the 4x100 event.

Leading the OFA efforts were: Ellen Miller who led the 400 hurdles and the first place 4x800 relay team of Miller, Sarah Mitchell, Danielle Steenkamer and Kurstyn Macaulay.
