Depth was a common strength shared by the OFA Golf, Baseball and Boys Lacrosse teams in Mondays Northern Conference action.
The golfers won their season-opener defeating Massena 210-226, the baseball team (4-1 NAC) posted its fourth straight Central Division win with an 18-1 victory at Gouverneur and the lacrosse squad snapped a six-game slide netting a 6-4 victory at Colton-Pierrepont.
This was definitely a team effort, said OFA Coach Joe Lynch who will take his team to Gouverneur before hosting Potsdam on Thursday.
Conor Hannan shot an excellent round of 37 but he was nipped by Hunter Francis who shot a 36. But we had a nice day overall with a lot of solid rounds.
The number one match produced two birdies as Hannan birdied the third hole and Francis birdied the second hole. Massenas second man Kendrick Swamp shot a 40 with a birdie on the ninth hole.
The Blue Devils took control as Rudy Binion and Jed McRoberts shots 42s and Tristan Moore tallied a 45. Rounding out Massenas scoring unit were: Brendan Dobbins (45), Tyler Sunday (53) and Mark Bender (52). Matt Pierces 45 led OFAs alternates with Alec Manke posting a 47 and Colin and Justin Ross finishing at 48.
GOUVERNEUR -Stingy on the mound and prolific at the plate.
OFA continued to exhibit that optimum formula at Gouverneurs Mills Park as Seth Pinkerton struck out 10 in five innings to pick up his second win of the season.
Pinkerton allowed three hits and Zach Sharpe pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his first mound outing of the season.
Sharpe continued his outstanding season at the plate going 5/5 with his second five-RBI game of the season, belting a three-run homerun over the rightfield fence into the Oswegatchie River and scoring three runs. Kinnon LaRose drove in three runs with a pair of doubles and Jon Tayler stroked two hits and scored three runs with an RBI.
Konnor Murdock also doubled and Seth Pinkerton, Dave Prudhomme, Andrew Cole and Alex Farrell all stroked RBI singles. Brendan Arsenault and DaKota Brady also singled.
Aaron McEathron singled home the lone Gouverneur (1-3 NAC) run as the Wildcats snapped a string 24 innings without an earned run by Devil pitchers. Matt Waugh, Matt Ashley and Hunter Ayen also hit safely.
Seth Pinkerton and Zach Sharpe both mixed their pitches well. Seth mixed three pitches to keep their batters off balance, said OFA Coach Tom Pinkerton.
And Zach Sharpe is just crushing everything at the plate right now. Dave Prudhomme got his first hit and that was great to see because he improved so much. LACROSSE
SOUTH COLTON - Andrew Roddy scored off assists from Nick Perrigo and Jake Garrison in the final four minutes of the game as the Blue Devils broke a 4-4 tie to defeat Colton-Pierrepont 6-4.
Roddy finished with four goals and one assist with Garrison and Perrigo each scoring one goal with an assist. Taylor Richardson and Nate Peo each added an assist to the support of Spencer Lawrences 10 saves.
Andrew Roddy, Jake Garrison and Nick Perrigo have been our key offensive guys all season and they stepped up today at the end of the game and made very nice plays, said OFA Coach Matt Morley who will have his team at home on Wednesday to host Canton.
Both teams played good defense today and both goalies played very well. After we got the go-ahead goal the guys did a good job slowing things down.
Gyle Dominy scored two goals for C-P (0-8), Cody Green tallied one goal with one assist and Andrew Holden scored a singleton to back Craig Millers nine saves.
