CANTON The SUNY Canton baseball and softball teams lent their support last weekend to Boston-based Fisher College after last weeks bombings and shootings in the Boston area.
Fisher College, which is located on Beacon Street in Boston just a few blocks from where bombs exploded April 15 at the Boston Marathon, played baseball and softball games against SUNY Canton on Saturday and Sunday in Canton.
Fishers teams were unable to leave as scheduled or obtain expense money Friday because of a travel lockdown in Boston. The teams left some players behind before managing to depart with enough players late Friday evening and arriving in Canton at 4 a.m. Saturday.
SUNY Canton acknowledged Fisher during Saturdays games, standing with the team during the national anthem, and playing the Neil Diamond song Sweet Caroline, as many other sports teams have done in support of Boston.
The Fisher baseball team defeated SUNY Canton 10-9 on Saturday, while Canton beat Fisher in softball 6-1. Afterward, SUNY Canton hosted the Falcons baseball and softball teams to dinner at Sergis Restaurant in Canton.
