The Potsdam Central and Massena Central varsity girls lacrosse teams recovered from losses with NAC wins on Monday.
Potsdam 6, OFA 5: In a close game from start to finish at the Potsdam turf field, the Lady Sandstoners bounced back from a non-league setback to General Brown on Saturday by turning back the Lady Blue Devils after the teams had battled to a 4-4 halftime draw.
Michaela Cole anchored the winning offense with four goals while Nettie Rishe tallied two goals and an assist as Potsdam raised its NAC-leading record to 4-0.
Nikki Holmes led OFA with a four-goal effort while Kaitlin Sheppard accounted for the other goal.
Katelyn Bloom made four saves working the Lady Sandstoner crease and Erica Chase did likewise for OFA (1-5, 1-3).
Potsdam will now get set to play at non-league rival Indian River on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in a rematch of their season-opener.
Massena 18, Salmon River 6: In Fort Covington, the Lady Raiders steadily pulled away for the win in their first outing since suffering their first loss to an NAC team in three years last week at home to Potsdam.
The game produced several individual career highlights for Massena with senior Erin Francis raising her career scoring totals to a school record 273 points on 195 goals and 78 assists after the Syracuse University recruit tallied five goals and four helpers in the win.
Erin struggled in the game against Potsdam and that really motivated her today, noted coach Jeffrey Slack after his squad improved to 3-1.
Alisha Jacobs chipped in three goals and three assist against the Lady Shamrocks. Shannon Casey netted two others while Alanna Pyke, Dominique Valancius, Steffanie Premo and Ashlyn Olson each struck for singletons. Breaking through for their first varsity career goals in the winning effort were Sophia Rusaw, Maddi Dillabough and Abby LaClair.
Tewasherake Barnes paced the Lady Shamrocks with three goals and one assist. Jaiden Mitchell added two goals and one helper.
Carlie Leary moved from starting midfielder to starting netminder for the game and made three saves in her season debut between the pipes. Kiera Pyke had 11 saves working the Salmon River crease.
Massena return to action this afternoon on the road against Heuvelton starting at 4:30 p.m. while the Lady Shamrocks (0-4) is slated to play at OFA on Thursday.
Canton 12, Saranac Lake 4: In Saranac Lake, the Lady Bears relayed an 8-2 halftime lead inte the win led by Rachel Huntley with three goals and an assist. Molly McMasters (1 assist) Tess Knight and Macy Huntley struck for two goals apiece while Meg Howard handled 11 shots backstopping the win.
Four different players scored for the Red Storm.
