A refurbished clubhouse and a new fleet of totally electric power carts are greeting golfers as the St. Lawrence State Park Golf Course has opened for a third season under the direction of Golf Services Inc. Golf Services Inc. President Doug Horton reports that the staff at the course is glad to be outside after spending much of the winter months doing the interior renovations.

Golf Services Inc. leases the St. Lawrence State Park and Wellesley Island State Park courses from New York State. This fall the staff of Golf Services constructed nine new tees at the Wellesley Island course. “There are some wet spots out there which is to be expected considering the weather but the course came through the winter in good shape,” said Doug Horton of the state park course.

“We have come a long way in two years. We now have 100 members, our leagues will soon be forming and we are now booking outings. We don’t have any major projects planned on the course this season, we just want to continue working hard to giving golfers the best playing conditions possible.”

The course is now offering Spring rates of: $10 to walk nine holes, $15 to walk 18 holes, $15 to play nine holes with a cart and $25 to play 18 holes with a cart.

A variety of season memberships are also available along with the option of purchasing a cart pass which offers 20 nine hole rounds for $120. All members of the state park course can also play five free rounds at the Wellesley Island course.

Golf Services has also purchased 20 new all electric carts with tops, rain covers, windshields, divot repair kits and coolers.

Horton will be involved on-site at the course this season and reports that the entire grounds staff will be returning: Joe Desgrosielier, Mel Fichette and Rocco and Ryan Perretta.

Golf Services Inc. has also assumed operations of the clubhouse and Horton reports that in the near future a full bar with a limited food menu will be offered. Also, for the first time, the course will offer a beverage cart out on the course.

“We will do our best to fill the shoes of Greg and Stacy Sholette and the staff at the 10th Hole Grill. We will be filling a few positions inside,” said Horton.“Greg (Sholette) will continue to direct the men’s league and the senior league and we hope to see he and Stacy and their family out enjoying the course as much as possible”.

The men’s league will hold an organizational meeting on April 29 and the Ben Cordwell Memorial Senior League will begin Friday play as soon the weather permits.

Golf Services Inc. is also continuing its support of the OFA Golf Program which will continue to play its home matches at the state park course. Every member of the OFA team receives a free junior membership from Golf Services.“We want to do everything we can to support golf among young people. Its great for the kids and great for the course to have those young players up here playing all summer,” said Horton who urges anyone with any questions on any aspects of the course to call 393-2286.
