A Fort Drum soldier killed in Iraq was honored by FortSill, Okla., when a computer lab in the post’s new youth center was named in his honor.

The lab was dedicated to Cpl. Wilfred Flores Jr., of the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, at a ceremony on April 10.

Cpl. Flores, a native of nearby Lawton, Okla., died on March 31, 2007 during a patrol near Baghdad, when his Humvee was struck by a roadside bomb.

Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald, Fort Sill’s commander, said the tribute was fitting because Cpl. Flores enjoyed computers and video games, and that he volunteered with disabled children and adults.

Also in attendance were his parents, Wilfred Sr. and Vicky Flores, both retired sergeants first class. The timing of the ceremony coincided with Cpl. Flores’ 27th birthday.
