Dogs and cats had a reason to bark and meow Monday, as the Animal Doctors veterinary clinic, 1631 State St., marked its 15th anniversary. The clinic will celebrate the occasion with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15.
Dr. Nina M. Harff, who opened the clinic in 1998 with her late husband, Dr. J. Blair Harff, said the open house will give long-term and new customers a chance to socialize while celebrating the milestone together.
A professional photographer will offer pet portraits for a donation of $5, and proceeds will be donated to a local animal charity.
Educational presentations will be hosted throughout the day by doctors at the clinic, who will demonstrate services for laser therapy; dental care; acupuncture and massage; first aid; and appropriate behaviors for pets and children. Various door prizes will be given away, such as treats and products for pet care and first aid.
Along with the open house, the clinic will donate a portion of its total proceeds for the month of April to an animal charity to celebrate its anniversary. Visitors on the clinics Facebook page can vote for the charity of their choice, which will be announced at the end of the month.
The clinic has strived to treat its customers like family members since it opened its doors 15 years ago, Dr. Harff said. That simple recipe, she said, has enabled the small business to survive and expand. It has four technicians and two associates on staff.
The anniversary feels bittersweet, she said. The first puppies that walked through our door in 1998 are now nearing the end of their lives.
