OGDENSBURG A level 3 sexually violent offender faces new charges after he allegedly used forged prescriptions to obtain drugs from pharmacies in Ogdensburg and Massena.
Gary J. Sharlow, 29, of 2369 County Route 28, Madrid, was arrested Monday by state police and charged with two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony.
Troopers said Sharlow altered a prescription issued by a Schenectady doctor to obtain Suboxone, a medication used to treat dependence on opioid drugs, from Walgreens pharmacies in Ogdensburg and Massena on March 24 and again on Friday.
Sharlow pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court 10 years ago to two counts of second-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse involving two girls, admitting just before a trial was about to begin that he engaged in sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in September 2001 and that he had intercourse with an 11-year-old girl on two occasions in April 2002.
Sharlow unsuccessfully attempted to appeal his March 31, 2003, plea. His sex offender classification was assigned following release from the county jail, Canton, in 2004.
In 2009, Sharlow was convicted at trial of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, after he rammed his vehicle into another mans vehicle while the man was standing next to the car.
Sharlow was arrested Monday afternoon on the forgery charges and arraigned in Oswegatchie Town Court. He was sent to the county jail without bail.
