CANTON — Stephanie O’Rourke scored two goals in the second half to help the St. Lawrence University women’s lacrosse team edge Union 11-10 in a Liberty League game Saturday.

The game was tied 7-7 with 28 minutes left when O’Rourke scored the first of her two goals, which gave the Saints (9-5 overall, 5-2 conference) the lead for good.

Brigid Hurley led the Saints with six goals. Michaela Maybee also scored two goals and Carly VanTassel scored SLU’s other goal.

Emily McGrail led Union (5-4, 3-2) with four goals. Heather Fraser scored twice for the Dutchwomen.

WILLIAM SMITH 17, CLARKSON 6

Marissa Potter scored five goals and Kathleen Ragan and Hannah Connolly added four each as the Hurons (7-4, 4-1) won a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Abbie West added two goals for the Hurons.

Alyssa Cristaldi scored two goals to lead Clarkson (8-4, 3-4). Katie VanDeValk, Marissa Mastronardi, Kerrie Cline and Christine Wright also scored.

SUNY GENESEO 18, SUNY POTSDAM 3

Emily Haggerty scored five goals as the Blue Knights (7-4, 1-3) knocked off the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Geneseo.

Katey Hart scored four goals and Caroline Buonocore added three for SUNY Geneseo.

Bailey Weigel, Maggie McCabe and Margaret Wall scored for the Bears (4-6, 1-3).

MEN’S LACROSSE

SUNY ONEONTA 5, SUNY POTSDAM 4

Devon Casey scored with 5 minutes, 45 seconds left in the third quarter to lead the Red Dragons (3-9, 1-3) past the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Oneonta.

Jim van de Veerdonk led the Red Dragons with two goals. Connor Coyle and Josh Heller also scored.

Derek Frost and Jared Flath each scored twice for the Bears (5-4, 1-2).

DEAN COLLEGE 19, JEFFERSON CC 9

Dan Lazore and Kyle Scordo each tallied two goals and two assists, and Joe Spooner had two goals and one assist as the host Cannoneers (1-9) dropped a nonconference game with the Bulldogs (4-3).

BASEBALL

UNION 2-3, CLARKSON 0-2

Dane O’Neil struck out eight and threw a five-hit shutout in the opening game as Union (14-4, 11-1) swept a Liberty League doubleheader from Clarkson in Potsdam.

Tyler Heck added two hits for Union in the opener.

John Coleman went 3-for-3 for Clarkson (8-13, 5-7) in game one, and Ryan Vaughn, Justin Rebhun and Bobby Derico each had two hits in game two for the Golden Knights.

SOFTBALL

RIT 1-3, ST. LAWRENCE 0-4

Leslie Stratton supplied three hits in each game as St. Lawrence (10-10, 3-3) split a Liberty League doubleheader with the Rochester Institute of Technology in Canton.

Natasha Bell went 2-for-4 for the Saints in the opener.

Sarah Collmus threw a shutout for RIT (6-14, 1-3) in the opener, despite giving up eight hits.

TRACK AND FIELD

SEVEN SAINTS WIN IN ROCHESTER

Ogdensburg native Nick Crawford was one of seven individual champions for St. Lawrence’s men’s and women’s teams at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational in Rochester.

Crawford on the 400-meter hurdles for SLU. Harrison Sloan won the 800, Scott Smolensky won the 1,500 and Steve Petramale won the 5,000 for the Saints men.

Divya Biswal won the 100 hurdles for SLU’s women, while Carly Stine (400 meters) and Elizabeth Edwards (5,000) also added wins.

SLU’s women also won the 1,600 relay.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

ROCHESTER 6, ST. LAWRENCE 3

Morgan McNeal won a singles match and was on a winning doubles team for the Saints (7-5) in a loss to the Yellowjackets in Rochester.

Frances Tseng won a singles match and also won a doubles match for Rochester (10-4).

MEN’S TENNIS

ROCHESTER 9, ST. LAWRENCE 0

Each of the Yellowjackets singles players also won a doubles match to sweep St. Lawrence (9-5) in Rochester.

Ben Shapiro swept his singles match 6-0, 6-0 for Rochester (13-6) and allowed only two points in doubles.
