NY SAFE Act urges neighbors to spy on each other

What Gov. Andrew Cuomo is doing instituting the SAFE Act is wrong at so many levels, I scarcely know where to start. He clearly is not following the Constitution that he has sworn to uphold by pushing this act through via a “secret” session without public discussion.

Now I learn that he is offering a $500 reward, if a person tips the police about a person who they think is in possession of an illegal weapon. That’s right, you didn’t read this incorrectly. Mr. Cuomo is paying neighbors to spy on neighbors and to turn them in if they “think” they have an illegal gun.

It all has to start somewhere, and then more and more restrictive policies are put into place with little or no input from the citizens. This is what’s happening. Gov. Cuomo is breaking the Constitution and with the “gun tip line” is following the current political playbook of playing people against people. If Mr. Cuomo doesn’t like guns, that’s fine. Then follow the rule of law and author an amendment to the Constitution just like they did with Prohibition.

But none of these anti-gun people have the intellectual honesty to pursue the correct legal course of action. No, instead they manufacture their own statistics that are factually incorrect to support the anti-gun stance and then stir up the public to push through anti-gun state legislation. If people would just do their due diligence on these issues, they would know that Mr. Cuomo is “spinning” the data at the best and outright lying at the worst.

What is most infuriating is that, with the number of lawyers and judges in this country, nobody seems to be launching serious litigation against Mr. Cuomo’s illegal actions. Judges should be judging based on the Constitution, not pursuing a political agenda. Lawyers should be launching lawsuits.

It seems that everybody is so complacent they aren’t aware or don’t care. Both are wrong. Come on, lawyers, get involved or lose your liberty. Just because Mr. Cuomo doesn’t like a particular gun or magazine doesn’t or shouldn’t make it illegal, and he surely shouldn’t be asking the people of this state to “rat out” each other.
