OFA looks to develop track-field depth

Last June the OFA Boys Track-Field program graduated one of its highest scoring senior classes ever led by Nick Crawford and Christian Lesperance who are now competing at St. Lawrence University and Utica College respectively.

In the current season, which will begin on April 19 at the NAC Relay Carnival in Massena, Coach John Tebo’s Blue Devils will look to replenish their scoring through the committee system.

A strong turnout of 38 performers give the Devils the potential for developing depth through any number of scoring combinations.

“We have a good mix of athletes this season. It will be tough to replace our seniors from last year but we do have many quality athletes who are preparing to step up to the challenge. Strong leadership from Andrew Colburn, Alex Wood, Collin Sovie and Taylor Bouchard, should help with the development of our younger athletes,” said Coach Tebo.

“We also have eight athletes from Heuvelton running for us this spring who should add depth to our lineup”.

In the indoor season Wood won the Section 10 Championship in the 600 run and also ran on the first place 4x400 relay team with fellow senior Andrew Colburn and junior Donovan Smith who will be one of the leaders of the Devils’ sprint corps.

As juniors Taylor Bouchard emerged as one of the section’s premier jumpers in the indoor season while Collin Sovie showed excellent versatility as a main cog in the Devil relays. Sophomore Joe Grizzuto also emerged as a consistent scorer in the distance events and the high jump.
