BROOME - Lisbon Central graduate and Alfred State sophomore Eric Mehaffy earned his first win in a Pioneers uniform going 5 2/3 innings in a 5-4 decision over Broome Community College on Sunday.
Alfred scored a run in the third and fourth to tie 3-3 and connected for two runs in the fifth,
Colton Caldwell tripled home Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) and then came around to score on a Steven Stapleton (Williamsville) single.
Mehaffy, who played summer baseball with Ogdensburg Maples, allowed five hits and four runs, struck out two and allowed three walks. Stephen Solomon recorded the final four outs to earn the save.
Caldwell finished was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a RBI.
On Saturday, Mehaffy, went 2-5 playing rightfield in a 9-5 win opening game win against Broome. In the nightcap, Mehaffy went 1-2 in a 17-4 win over Broome.
Mehaffy is hitting .243 with five runs scored this season.
The Pioneers (5-18, 3-3 Region III Division III) return to action today when they host Tompkins Cortland CC in a 2 p.m. start.
