MASSENA - The Massena Senior Citizens are welcoming people of all ages and from all communities to its monthly dance event Saturday at the Massena Senior Citizens Center.
The center holds a dance every month, with each event havings its own theme. Marchs theme was cabin fever, and the theme for April will be spring.
The dance has a cover charge of $4, and will include live music by the Oshier Country Band and special guest Louie Sequin, card games, shuffleboard and refreshments, such as hot dogs, French fries, fried bread, soda and water for $1.
Although the dance is a function of Massena Senior Citizens, Chairperson Linda S. Brunelle said the event is not limited to Massena residents or people over the age of 65.
Were very friendly. We have a board of directors that tries to be welcoming (to attendeees), Ms. Brunelle said. We like to see new people.
Last months cabin fever dance brought in more than 70 people, which is close to double the number of attendees the event has brought in in the past, according to Ms. Brunelle. She attributed the increase to word-of-mouth and outreach to senior citizen centers in neighboring communities.
Ms. Brunelle expects attendance to increase further, as snow-birds who travel to avoid the harsh north country winters return to the area to enjoy the spring and summer months.
The March cabin fever dance also featured a secret dance contest, with James McCormick, Madlyn Hamelin, Leo Dubray and Ailene Tessier earning top honors.
Ms. Brunelle said theyre planning something special for Saturdays spring dance, but she said it will remain a secret until the dance.
