OGDENSBURG — There are 18 applicants so far for the executive director position at the Frederic Remington Art Museum.

Trustee Julie H. Cliff, who chairs the search committee, said a few more applications may come because those postmarked by April 1 will be considered.

A hiring recommendation is to be made by May 1. Edward A. LaVarnway, the museum’s executive director since 2005, plans to retire by June 1.

Mrs. Cliff said some of the interest is close to home.

“Most of them are from New York,” Mrs. Cliff said. “There are some from the immediate area. ... I’d say it’s a very diverse group.”

The committee’s goal is to have three finalists to choose from. How many candidates will be interviewed has not been determined.

The annual salary range for the position is $46,000 to $50,000.

The job description calls for a candidate with experience in management, planning and grant-writing, with a knowledge of fundraising, fiscal management and administration of an art museum.

The museum is at 303 Washington St.
