POTSDAM - A pair of Clarkson University freshman student-athletes were honored for their efforts last week.

JASEK EARNS BASEBALL HONOR

Freshman Greg Jasek (Chittenango, NY) tossed a complete-game shutout over Skidmore on Saturday, and the Clarkson baseball newcomer was honored by the conference on Monday when he was picked as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

Jasek, a pitcher and catcher, earned his first career victory with the four-hit, seven-inning performance, but he has pitched well all season, posting a 1.50 earned run average in his team-leading 18 innings. He has struck out 11 hitters thus far and walked just one while allowing hitters a miniscule .200 batting average. At the plate this weekend, Jasek also drove in five runs and scored three more in the four-game set against Skidmore. Despite playing in just nine of the team’s 12 games, Jasek leads the team in runs batted in with 10 and is hitting .304.

Junior David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY) was also picked to the Liberty League Honor Roll. Wixted batted .500 over the weekend with a team-best eight hits.

WRIGHT EARNS LACROSSE HONOR

Freshman midfielder Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) continued to dominate the weekly awards for the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team, claiming her third Liberty League Rookie of the Week honor in the past month on Monday.

Wright, who was chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for consecutive weeks in mid-March, scored five goals and added three assists in a 1-1 weekend for the Golden Knights. She scored four goals along with three helpers in a 16-12 win over Skidmore and then produced a goal in a loss to Rensselaer.

Overall, Wright has a team-best 30 points with 20 goals and a team-leading 10 assists. She also is the Golden Knights’ leader in draw controls (38) and groundballs (20) while ranking second in caused turnovers (9). Her point and groundball totals are the second-most in the Liberty League.

Gaining mention to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll was Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) for the women’s team and Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) of the men’s team.
