MASSENA - A 30-year-old Massena man was arrested Monday and charged with exposing himself to a woman in July.
The Massena Police Department Investigations Unit charged Jason D. Tassie, 124 Main St., Apt. 2, with a misdemeanor count of third-degree criminal trespass and a exposure of a person.
Police Chief Timmy J. Currier said the arrest was a result of an investigation that began at 11:45 p.m. July 26, 2012 when a female reported to police that a man was standing outside her back patio door exposing his private parts.
Mr. Currier said that DNA results returned from the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center were used to confirm the perpetrators identity and support criminal charges.
Tassie was arraigned Monday afternoon by Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and released without bail to reappear at a later date.
This arrest demonstrates the value of DNA evidence and how law enforcement can utilize it to help bring cases to a successful close, Mr. Currier said.
