CANTON One of the suspects in an alleged kidnapping attempt in Massena was arraigned Monday afternoon in St. Lawrence County Court, while her co-defendant is facing new charges in an unrelated case.
Miranda M. Green, 18, Massena, appeared before Judge Jerome J. Richards on charges of second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, petit larceny and third-degree assault.
Prosecutors alleged Ms. Green and her boyfriend, Patrick R. Lloyd, 25, of New York City, reportedly staying at a residence on Haskell Street, Massena, shoved Catherine A. Berry, 17, of Massena, to the ground on Feb. 16 and kicked and punched her in the face several times. They then allegedly restrained Ms. Berrys hands and tried to throw her into their vehicle before their actions drew the attention of neighbors in the Sycamore Street area. Ms. Berry reportedly suffered bruises and facial swelling as a result of the attack.
Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Green both have been indicted in the case. Mr. Lloyd is scheduled to be arraigned on April 5, although new charges against him were reported last weekend.
Massena Village Police charged him with disorderly conduct at 2:44 a.m. Sunday at 20 Boyton St. Police said they responded to a noise complaint and when they arrived they found Mr. Lloyd arguing with Crystal Durocher.
Mr. Lloyd refused to comply with several requests to stop shouting obscenities, police said.
Ms. Green had been free on $1,500 bail. In requesting her continued release Monday, defense attorney Peter A. Dumas told the judge Ms. Green recently discovered she is pregnant, that all her family is in the area and she has always shown up for court.
The judge sent her to be drug tested.
After a delay, Ms. Green returned and probation officials informed the judge she tested positive for marijuana.
He placed her under probation supervision with a warning to stay clean. Understand me, Ms. Green, you get one chance, he said. Ive put women who are nine months pregnant in the jail before.
