CRIMINAL CONTEMPT - MASSENA - Village police charged Dale E. Ward, 35, of 72 Woodlawn Ave., Massena, with first-degree criminal contempt at 4:16 p.m. Monday. The charge stemmed from an investigation into an incident that occurred at 12:36 p.m. March 12 when Ward allegedly called and left a voice mail at Jennifer E. Barron’s workplace.

The criminal contempt charge was elevated to a felony since Ward had a second-degree criminal contempt conviction (Jan. 12, 2010) within the past five years.

Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson had signed a temporary order of protection on Jan. 13 ordering Ward to have no contact with Ms. Barron. The temporary order was signed after village police charged Wardwith second-degree menacing, second-degree aggravated harassment, second-degree harassment, second-degree harassment and second-degree criminal impersonation following an investigation into an incident that reportedly took place on Dec. 28. He reportedly threatened Ms. Barron with a machete during that incident.

Ward was arraigned on the new charge Monday evening by Acting Massena Village Justice James M. Crandall and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with no bail set. The court noted it was unable to set bail because Ward has two prior felony convictions.
