Concertgoers in Watertown this summer will be able to say farewell to a country legend and enjoy some wild times.
The Disabled Persons Action Organization announced the DPAO/Toyota/Car-Freshner Summer Concert Series last week. The lineup:
May 25: Jack Hannas Into the Wild program at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Arena.
This unscripted program will provide insight into the protection and conservation of some of our planets most precious and endangered species.
Aug. 3: George Jones and his Farewell Tour at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Arena.
This country legend has received countless awards, culminating in 2012 when he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. In 2002, Mr. Jones, 81, received the National Medal of Arts. He has notched 143 top 40 country hits. They include He Stopped Loving Her Today, The Grand Tour, Wine-Colored Roses and Whos Gonna Fill Their Shoes?
Aug. 9: KC & the Sunshine Band with the Village People at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Arena.
These two bands, popular in the 1970s, will bring their party atmosphere to the road together. KC and the Sunshine Band is known for such hits as Sound Your Funky Horn, Get Down Tonight, Shake Your Booty and Im Your Boogie Man.
Village People hits include YMCA, In the Navy and Macho Man.
A fourth concert in the series is to be announced.
Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. April 19. But concertgoers, if they become season ticket holders, may reserve tickets before they go on sale. Ticket prices have not been announced. For more information, call DPAO at 782-0044 or visit its website at www.dpao.org.
