A Pulaski man faces dozens of charges after he was accused of embezzling $95,000 from a LaFargeville excavating company.

Peter D. Briggs, 47, of 16 Salmon Meadows Lane, was charged Tuesday by state police investigators in Alexandria Bay on one count of second-degree grand larceny and 76 counts of forgery, both felonies, and 76 counts of falsifying business records, misdemeanors, in connection with the alleged thefts from W.D. Bach Excavating & Consulting LLC.

The missing money was discovered after the Route 181 company conducted an internal audit earlier this month that revealed the discrepancies in its financial records, said Senior Investigator Rick A. Hathaway.

The alleged thefts occurred over an 18-month period and involved making false business entries and forging checks, he said.

Mr. Briggs, an accountant with the company, was arraigned in LeRay Town Court and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $20,000 bail.
