POTSDAM — A man who caused a security scare at Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Norwood, two months ago is in trouble again after he allegedly threatened to bring a gun into a bank after an argument over a credit card.

Potsdam police on Wednesday arrested Steven R. Wells, 60, of 60 W. Main St., Norfolk, on a charge of second-degree aggravated harassment, Sgt. Charles M. Daniels said.

Mr. Wells allegedly was angry about a credit card when he called a First Niagara Bank employee and said he would bring a gun to the bank if that’s what it took to resolve the issue, police said.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Canton Town Court on the latest charges and issued an appearance ticket.

A 2005 Times report indicated Mr. Wells previously had been barred from possessing handguns under the terms of an Onondaga County Court order.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree harassment and fourth-degree stalking after he turned up Jan. 25 at Norwood-Norfolk Central School bearing a gift for a teacher and wearing a shoulder holster with a black Desert Eagle BB pistol beneath his jacket, state police said.

According to court documents, the teacher said that she had met Mr. Wells about two weeks earlier, and that he had been calling and texting her repeatedly in the days leading up to his appearance at school.

The weapon was not loaded, troopers said.

Mr. Wells posted a $100,000 bond following his January arrest and had been free pending further proceedings.
