HANNAWA FALLS - Plunging into the frigid waters of the Raquette River may not seem like your idea of fun, but for 13 intrepid souls it was a day at the beach.

They came together Saturday to ensure The Canoe Place Inn’s first Polar Dip to benefit the Hannawa Falls Fire Department was a screaming success. Among the jumpers were a number of Leprechauns, a Top Gun lookalike, a Werewolf and an Elk representing the Potsdam BPOE.

The Freezing for a Reason event organizers were able to present over $2,000 to the Hannawa Falls Fire Department. The money will go toward department’s new equipment fund.

“We want to thank all the jumpers and the volunteers who helped make this event possible,” Jason Rutkauskas said. “This was our first attempt at this sort of thing but we learned a lot and hope to make it an annual event. Next year we will being doing this to benefit the Colton Fire Department, whose members were a great help here today.”

For more information, please call The Canoe Place Inn at 315 265 5600 or email Jason Rutkauskas jayrutty@gmail.com.
