Marlene Rexford Ennis, 94, formerly of Burrville, passed away in peace on Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2013, at the James G. Johnson Nursing Home in Johnson City, NY. She was born in Watertown, the daughter of Philo M. Rexford and Iva Rexford, nee Baker.
She married Richard H. Ennis, II, of Brewerton, NY, in Florence, Alabama, in 1943. After WW2, the settled in Burrville and operated a farm equipment dealership; Marlene served as Secretary/Treasurer of the company. Together they travelled extensively, including two world cruises and several trips to Europe, Africa and South America. They were well known for their many slide presentations at organizations and schools. Marlene and Dick spent summers on Grindstone Island, Clayton, where they especially enjoyed fishing and boating together.
Marlene was predeceased by her husband, Richard, in 1993 and by her son, Richard III, in 1995. She is survived by her son, Rexford, and his wife Janet, of Rogersville, TN; her daughter, Lauren, and her husband Renato Sarti, of Endicott, NY; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Marlene was a member of the Order o f the Eastern Star, Burrville United Church of Christ, the Town of Watertown Historical Society, the Jefferson County Historical Society, and the Constable Hall Association, where she served many years as Treasurer. She was a volunteer in the gift shop at The Samaritan Medical Center for a number of years.
A memorial service will be held on June 8, 2013, at 11am at the Burrville United Church of Christ.
