GREAT BEND – Wayne Jackson, 63, 24958 County Route 47, died Thursday morning at home, under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born on July 20, 1949 in Gouverneur, the son of the late Carl Jackson & Mary LaRue Thornton, he graduated from Harrisville High School. He married Linda Mary Gonyea on February 8, 1969 at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY. Mr. Jackson employed as an electrician by J & L Steel, the St. Regis Paper Co. in Deferiet and also Fort Drum. He retired from the Black River Power Co.

He was a member of the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend, he was a Ham Radio Operator and member of the Amateur Radio Operator’s Club, he enjoyed computers and keeping in contact with his family and friends through Facebook. He also was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Linda, at home, his mother, Mary Thornton & the late Allen Thornton, Brownville, his daughters and their husbands; Kelly & John Dickinson, Smithfield, North Carolina, Kristi & Steve Lapp, Cortland, NY and Karen & Scott Damson, Princeton, North Carolina, his siblings and their spouses; Joan & Bill Boyd, Hamlin, NY, Alan & Charlene Jackson, Philadelphia, Kevin & Pam Jackson, Cape Vincent and Joseph & Cindy Thornton, North Carolina. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Sean Ellard, Taylor Dickinson, Jerrica Jackson, Brandon Dickinson and Dana Givens.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 3:00 PM at the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Linda J. Harris, Pastor and the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, former Pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
