Gouverneur - William John “Billy” Shippee, 46, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home from an aortic aneurism.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 am at the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church with David Hart, pastor of the First Congregational Church and Presbyterian Stone Church, Ogdensburg officiating and burial with military honors at Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Billy was born September 22, 1966 in Watertown, the son of John and Patricia Hance Shippee.

Billy graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1986 and served in the United States Navy for eight years including overseas during the Persian Gulf War. He served on the USS America and the USS Lawrence.

He worked for the NYS Department of Corrections at the Gouverneur facility. Bill was a member of the Gouverneur VFW and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family and friends at his Lake Bonaparte cabin.

Billy married Nicole Lashbrooks on July 24, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church, Gouverneur.

He is survived by his wife Nicole, a daughter and her husband Miranda and David Rohe currently residing in Landstuhl, Germany, son Alec William Shippee of Gouverneur, a grandson Jaxen Rohe, and his parents John and Patricia Hance Shippee of Somerville. Billy is also survived by 2 brothers John Shippee Jr. and his wife Diane of Gouverneur, Matthew Shippee and his wife Kristy of Gouverneur, 3 sisters Donna Hatcher of Kentucky, Janice Woods of Gouverneur, Jeannette and Robert Lashbrooks of Gouverneur, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne and Sherry Lashbrooks of Gouverneur, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department, 33 Clinton Street, Gouverneur, NY 13642.
