■ WEST CARTHAGE Village trustees remind residents it is illegal to tap maple trees on any village property, including the terrace between the sidewalk and street.
■ The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced all outdoor residential brush and garbage burning will be banned during the high-risk wildfire season from Saturday through May 14.
■ The St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. will begin breaking ice Monday on the St. Lawrence River between Snell and Eisenhower locks. People are advised to stay off the ice in surrounding areas as it will be unstable. The Seaway will open for navigation March 22.
