DANBURY, Conn. The Danbury Whalers scored a pair of goals in the first and third periods, and Mike Brown made 38 saves as Danbury won 4-1 to sweep the Thousand Islands Privateers in a best-of-five Federal Hockey League semifinal series on Sunday.
Cody Ayers had three assists for Danbury and Mike Atkinson and Kelly Miller netted a goal and assist each. Richard Vanderhoek and Tyler Noseworthy had first-period goals for the Whalers.
Player-coach Paul Kelly tallied a short-handed goal for the only score for Thousand Islands, while Matt Anthony stopped 42 shots.
Danbury now faces the Dayton Demonz in the best-of-five Commissioners Cup championship series starting at 7:35 p.m. Friday at the Hara Arena in Dayton.
