Last week, the Watertown City Council found out how small the world really is after receiving international criticism for amending its Residential A zoning ordinance, a move even its own staff deems unenforceable.
A story about the zoning amendment and what constitutes a family in Watertown was printed in an English newspaper, which was then followed by a Tweet from Drew Carey, the host of the TV show The Price Is Right, who referred to the City Council as dumb asses.
Mayor Jeffrey Graham is incensed and wants Mr. Carey to apologize, but it may be too late. At the Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerces annual Business of the Year Awards luncheon Wednesday at the Black River Valley Club, one of the speakers began her remarks by saying:
If you are sitting at the table with an unrelated person, please get up and move.
Critics of the City Council acting as a relationship manager do not just live in England or Tweet from Hollywood. They are also the business leaders of our community.
