CANTON — A Star Lake man pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court following two town of Fine break-ins, while in an unrelated case a Massena man who forged a dead man’s Seacomm Federal Credit Union check has been convicted after trial.

Matthew Adams, 28, Star Lake, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Kathleen M. Rogers to attempted second-degree burglary, a class D felony, in connection with a pair of incidents six months ago.

Mr. Adams was indicted in September after police accused him of entering the town of Fine residence of Dean Williams with the intent to commit a crime on Sept. 1. He left, then entered the residence of Ina and Michael Ober, also in Fine, where he allegedly stole property and injured Mrs. Ober. Neither the property stolen nor the extent of Ms. Ober’s injuries was available.

Mr. Adams was charged with two counts of felony second-degree burglary, second-degree robbery and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, as the burglary took place front of Mrs. Ober’s 14-year-old granddaughter. Monday’s plea satisfies all the original charges.

Sentencing is set for May 23.

In an earlier case, Michael K. Kocsis, 48, Massena, was found guilty by a jury on Thursday of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony, following a trial before Judge Rogers.

Mr. Kocsis was indicted in June after investigation into charges that he forged a Seacomm Federal Credit Union check belonging to the late Robert Dupree. Records show the check was written for $125.

Sentencing is set for April 25.
