PARISHVILLE - Four snowmobilers were pulled from the waters of the Rainbow Falls Reservoir Monday night after two snowmobiles crashed through the ice shortly after 8 p.m.

Fire and rescue units from Colton and Parishville and divers from around the county were called out just before 8:15 p.m. Monday to a report of two snowmobiles that had gone through the ice on the artificial lake in the southwest corner of the town of Parishville. The incident took place near 946 Raquette River Road.

Parishville Rescue, according to scanner traffic, reported at 9:15 p.m. that three victims were out of the water. The fourth person was reportedly pulled from the water shortly before 10 p.m. by members of the St. Lawrence County Dive Team.

Parishville Fire Chief Ed Cool said two men were conscious when they were pulled out of the water, and the other two were unconscious. He said three of the victims were being transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and a fourth man was being flown by a Lifenet helicopter to a hospital in either Syracuse or Burlington, Vt.

One victim, described as suffering from severe hypothermia, was initially transported to Swift Field in South Colton to meet the LifeNet helicopter coming from Watertown. The chopper was expected to arrive in South Colton at 10:15 p.m. to pick up the 56-year-old male who had been in the water for approximately one hour but the chopper crew reported at 10:10 p.m. they were diverting to the Potsdam Airport due to ground conditions.
