HAMDEN, Conn. — Amanda Colin scored on a breakaway move in triple overtime to give Quinnipiac a 3-2 victory over St. Lawrence in game two of the ECAC women’s college hockey quarterfinals on Saturday.

The deciding third game is set for 2 p.m. today in the same location. The winner will advance to play top-seeded Cornell in the ECAC semifinals this weekend in Ithaca.

The Saints battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the final 32 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Rylee Smith scored from senior captain Kelly Sabatine to bring St. Lawrence to within a goal. Then, after pulling their goalie, the Saints received the game-tying goal from Mel Desrochers with 0.2 seconds left to play.

Carmen MacDonald stopped a career-best 57 shots for St. Lawrence (18-13-5), which had its five-game ECAC win streak snapped.

Colin finished with two goals, and Kristen Eklund scored for Quinnipiac (20-11-4).

The Roos scored nine runs in the seventh inning and two more in the ninth to force extra innings, but the Raiders followed with three runs in the top of the 10th to spoil SUNY Canton’s final spring training game in Winter Haven, Fla.

Eddy Morel had three singles and two RBIs, Kyle Sacks drove in four runs and Kevin Hill went 3-for-5 with a double for the Roos (1-7). All three players are freshmen.

MEN’S LACROSSE

ST. LAWRENCE 11, HAVERFORD 5

Mac Johnson scored three goals as the Saints raced out to an 9-3 halftime lead and cruised to a season-opening victory over Haverford (0-2) at Greenwich, Conn.

Garrett Gagne and Tucker Garfield added two goals apiece, and Davey Hovey supplied three assists for St. Lawrence.

MEDAILLE 13, SUNY CANTON 9

Brock Levick scored four goals and added two assists to lead the Mavericks past the Roos in the season opener for both teams in Canton.

Jason Thompson and Rob Gleason each finished with two goals and two assists to lead SUNY Canton.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

ITHACA 5, ST. LAWRENCE 4

St. Lawrence suffered a pair of three-set losses to drop a dual match to Ithaca at Glazer Arena.

Olivia Arroyo, Elizabeth Geer and Shannon Murphy each captured a singles victory for St. Lawrence (1-1), while Murphy and Elkie Vandenbeemt claimed a doubles win.

For the Bombers (12-1), Allison Young and Alyssa Steinweis each needed three sets to get past their respective opponents, Morgan McNeal and Laura Goldhar.

TRACK AND FIELD

BISWAL TO COMPETE AT NCAAS

Sophomore Divya Biswal won the triple jump on Friday at the ECAC Division III Indoor Championships at the Armory in New York City to qualify for this weekend’s Division III Championships at North Central in Naperville, Ill.

Biswal improved on her own school record for the fourth straight meet, finishing with a distance of 12.07 meters. Biswal held onto third on the NCAA performance list with a .03 improvement on her previous best.

The Saints’ women’s team placed 10th in the 50-team field.

The Saints’ men’s team finished 22nd in a 51-team field, highlighted by a third-place finish from the distance medley relay team of Wesley Kirui, Nick Crawford, Jon Eng and Zach Nelson.

MARTIN CRACKS NATIONAL TOP 10

Ella Martin moved into the top 10 nationally with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 17 minutes, 13.25 seconds, at the Tufts (Mass.) Last Chance meet.

Martin could join Biswal at the NCAA Division III Championships this weekend, depending on results from other meets around the country. The top 15 times nationally advance to the Division III Championships.

MEN’S SQUASH

THREE SAINTS IN MAIN DRAW

Amr Khaled Khalifa, Sebastian Riedelscheimer and Ibrahim Khan of the St. Lawrence men’s team each advanced to the main draw of individual nationals in Hartford, Conn., on Friday.

Khalifa went 2-0 to advance in the Pool Division, while Riedelscheimer and Khan each claimed one match after a first-round bye in the Molloy Division.
