Mike Atkinson scored two goals in the third period to spark the Danbury Whalers past the Thousand Islands Privateers, 4-2, on Saturday night before an announced crowd of 1,235 in the Federal Hockey Leagues regular-season finale.
St. Lawrence University product Max Mobley scored two goals for the Privateers (23-30), who finished in third place and will face the second-place Whalers (25-23) in a semifinal playoff series.
Mark Vida and Kamil Vavra also scored for the Whalers, who won the season series, 9-5.
The first three games of the best-of-five series will be in Danbury on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Games 4 and 5, if necessary, will be played in Watertown on March 12-13.
Goalie Bryan Kalczynski had 26 saves for Thousand Islands.
