The Watertown Industrial Center’s reorganization may be completed next week.

The WIC is becoming a stand-alone organization as a result of the state comptroller’s ruling last February that employees of economic development agencies cannot belong to the state pension system.

In recent months, the WIC board has been working on transforming the group into its own local development corporation, no longer associated with the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency.

At Wednesday’s meeting, board members will consider a resolution to hire three JCIDA employees who will continue to run the center — site manager William J. Soluri; Richard Lampman, head of maintenance; and maintenance worker Robert Deymont.

Board members are also expected to vote on entering an agreement with Benefit Services Group, which will handle health and disability coverage for the three employees. Plans also call for hiring the Rochester corporation Paychex to handle payroll responsibilities for the WIC. The board will continue to work on finding retirement benefits for them.

“We’ll be ready to move on, move forward,” Mr. Soluri said, after the board approves the series of resolutions.

As a result of the comptroller’s ruling, the board had previously worked toward dissolving the organization and letting the JCIDA take over the facility. But that strategy changed.

Mr. Soluri said the WIC board used the same businesses the Watertown Local Development Corp. had relied on when that organization was dealing with the state comptroller’s decision last February.

The WIC board will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the center’s conference center.
